In the Church Times
Almost missed it, but I’m in this weekend’s Church Times and it’s a perfect spot as dusk falls on Reformation Day. Turn with me to page 12…
What are the reasons for there being no statutory fees for baptisms in a parish church other than the £12 fee for a certificate? When was this last reviewed by the Archbishop’s Council?
The answer is very simple. Baptism is a sacrament and we do not invoice for grace. Charging for baptisms would be tantamount to appointing Johann Tetzel as the Church of England’s patron saint.
