A Thought on the Current Abortion Furore

There is nothing in Nadine Dorries’ proposals that prevents BPAS or Marie Stopes setting up a separate counselling arm that is financially independent of the abortion clinic and continuing to offer independent counselling. What would be stopped is that independent counsel then forwarded the woman who had come for counselling to an abortion clinic run by the same parent organisation. This would simply be in order that there is absolutely no doubt that the organisation offering counselling benefits in anyway from the decision arrived at through counselling.

Surely that’s sensible?
